The Edinburgh Free Festival, perhaps more accurately described at the Edinburgh ‘Pay-What-You-Can’ Festival, has reached its 20th Year.
In 2004, founder Alex Petty originally teamed with comedian Peter Buckley Hill, forming the PBH Free Fringe, but they parted ways two years later. Two rival ‘free’ festivals have been operating ever since.
Rather than paying a fixed ticket price, festival goers pay what they can afford or what they think the show is worth, either in advance by ticket or via bucket collection at the end of the performance.
On the Mic is a strong supporter of both ‘free’ fringe festival groups. You can find more information here at PBH Free Fringe and Edinburgh Free Festival.
