Tell me about your 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Dixie Longate’s Happy Hour.

This has been one heck of a crazy couple of years we have had. Between the pandemic and stupid people on the rise and recycling bins getting smaller which means you have to spread out your empty liquor bottles over a wider area, life is tough.

It seems like people are more frustrated and stressed than ever. Everybody’s forgetting how to find those golden moments in life that make you happy. My goal is to share some stories and some smiles and help you shake off some of the last 2 years.

I want to make you laugh and send you out into the world with a little bit more swagger than you came in with.

Was becoming the world’s greatest Tupperware Lady always the dream? Who first inspired you to become a Tupperware Lady?

I got out of prison and my parole officer, this adorable lesbian, told me that I needed a job to get my kids back. Argh. I didn’t want ’em, but the law makes you take ’em back. She suggested I do something with a flexible schedule where I would be able to drink at work.

A Tupperware party seemed like the perfect fit. After she lifted a few restraining orders, I was able to go back into people’s homes and share the ultimate in creative food storage solutions. A friend told me that I should move the parties from the living room to the stage. That’s when my show, “Dixie’s Tupperware Party” was born.

I did it in NY to lots of applause and sold tons of bowls which led to a small tour. The tour ended up blowing up, taking me to 5 different countries and it is now in its 14th year. The best part is that when I’m on the road, I don’t have to see my kids as much. Yea! It’s a Win/Win.

You’ve toured throughout America, Canada and Australia since your last visit to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009. If I were looking to visit a place that’s most receptive to Tupperware, where should I go?

It’s true. I have been to places that I didn’t even know had food. People all over the world love Tupperware. And why wouldn’t they.

I don’t think there is a city I have gone to where I didn’t see people’s jaws hang all the way open when I show them some of the fantastic uses for the iconic plastic containers. And some people’s jaws just never shut after that, making them really popular in some circles.

But this year, I’m leaving my bowls behind to share some more joy with y’all. I’m from Alabama so there is nothing I like better than bringing some of my southern hospitality around the world with me. And if that means I end up behind the skip making some new friends along the way, I’ll do it. What can I say, I’m a giver.

Tell me about your popular streaming show, which you performed during lockdown.

I have been lucky enough to perform at arts centers all over the world. When the lockdown happened, I knew it would be awhile until people could go back to the theater. SInce so many great theaters have opened their doors to me, I wanted to give back a little.

I created a show, rented a small theater nearby and built a set, filmed the show and gave it to theaters all over the US to stream for their audiences. The ticket sales went back to the theaters to put a little money into their coffers while they were struggling to keep afloat.

It was a show about the things that you loved as a kid which you should reintroduce yourself to as an adult. I figured that people had more time with things being shut down so they were looking for things to do. Once you run out of wine and vodka, you find that you have extra time on your hands. When you tie an old blanket around your neck and put your underwear over your clothes, you look just like the superhero you always imagined yourself to be.

What do you think is missing in the world today?

Kindness. And pogo sticks. You can’t find a dang pogo stick anywhere these days.

What are you looking forward to the most in Scotland?

Seeing an unexpected show at 10AM on a Tuesday. Good Indian food. And Irn Bru. I don’t know why but I like that stuff.
