Tell me about your 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show.
Indoor Kids is an original show that blends sketch, stand-up, and musical comedy, ushered forth from the legendary Chicago scene that birthed us. Lovers of pop culture, kooky humor, and chosen sisterhood will find themselves at home in our fusion of punchy performances and heartfelt moments. We’re Gen Z’s answer to Broad City, or if the iCarly reboot was actually good. It’s a show that’s part absurd, part tender, completely born of the luck of becoming next-door neighbors at age six.
Tell me about your expectations of Edinburgh.
It’s our first time, which we’re stoked about! It’s an honor to be sharing the festival with some of our heroes. We are hoping to belly up to some pubs with fellow comedians and give Edinburgh a taste of our Midwestern charm.
Who inspires you?
Kate Berlant and Jacqueline Novak. We’re the biggest POOG Hags in the contiguous United States!
How hard was it to get back on stage after the pandemic lockdown?
Before COVID, we had been doing our comedy separately in sketch and improv groups at university. Once the pandemic hit and we were quarantined together, it was time to combine comedic forces and work on a show to premiere when things got better. What came of that work was a show about our decade-and-a-half-long friendship that anyone who knows us could have seen coming. It’s been the perfect way to re-enter the world of performance.
Finally, ask and answer a question of your own.
“Noa, we hear you do a great Anya Taylor-Joy impression. Let’s hear it!”
“It’s me, Anya Taylor-Joy. Great day to be me! I loved playing the lead role in the Queen’s Gambit.”
“And JR we hear you do a great impression of a saloon door?”
“Eeeeeerrrrr. Nice to see you!”
