Please tell me about your 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show –
A drag queen and sommelier walk into a bar… and turn wine tasting on its head!
We will be hosting a brilliant wine tasting throughout the Fringe at the award-winning Mono restaurant. Fuelled by quality wine and low tone, guests will taste through three wines, guided by Vanity and Beth, alongside a delicious snack from the Mono team. Interactive, playful, humorous and downright raucous with a good ol dollop of song from our talented, Vanity, it’s sure to be a whopper of a show!
What is the attraction of performing at the Edinburgh Fringe? What do you think of Edinburgh?
We absolutely adore Edinburgh, the Fringe is a fantastic challenge, and the perfect place to showcase a show amongst the crème de la crème of the theatre and creative scene. Vanity is from Glasgow so there is a personal connection in there, although she hasn’t been back since she gave Mel Gibson chlamydia whilst filming Braveheart.
Who inspires you?
Everyday people and guests of restaurants I’ve worked in over the years. I love talking to people about wine and working out what gets them salivating! Injecting humour into that engagement drives a lot of my work; for me wine is playful, story driven and creative, so translating that in conversation with guests is a major factor.
Are there other shows you want to check out during the Fringe?
Definitely! Our show is from 12-1:30pm so with evenings free, we’ll be lapping up as much of the other Fringe shows as possible!
If Vanity was a wine what would she be?
Vanity would definitely be a dry Riesling. With colourful expression, always a star and with the refreshing acidity like her zippy wit!
