Becky Fury: Great British C*nts ★★★★

Becky Fury discusses her discomfort with fashionable identities and she chooses to explore an unfashionable one – being British.

She critiques the left-wing middle class’s distain of patriotism and the insularity of British politics. Describing her relationship with Britain as a “pansexual, non-monogamous situationship,” Becky emphasizes the importance of understanding cultural origins and suggests a goal of making Britain less shit again.

This is intelligent, very funny, free-thinking stuff from a confident and articulate comedian who genuinely has something to say. A joke heavy show with a message, she had the entire audience laughing from the opening line, “I’m brown and bisexual and non-binary, I’m all sorts of cool identities. But I started being those identities before they were fashionable.”

The laughs didn’t let up for the entire show. My only, very small criticism is that she can occasionally speak too quickly. Perhaps she was afraid of over-running due to the overabundance of audience laughter constantly holding up the show, I don’t know. She might consider cutting five minutes instead of sprinting to the finish line.

Becky Fury is a tremendous talent. I’m very much looking forward to seeing her perform again.
