Please tell me about your 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show.
Cake is a split bill stand up show with a cherry on top. We want to celebrate the pitfalls of young(ish) adulthood. So we’re honouring the mundane, difficult, (occasionally) lonely moments that make up our actual existence by dedicating each show to the audience member with the worst reason to celebrate. We even give them a little cake. Because like, why do people only get gifts when things are already going well for them? The worse things are going, the more attention you should get, that should be the rule. And with that rule in mind, we will also each be talking about ourselves for about 25 minutes straight, covering topics including (but not limited to) chlamydia, Megan Thee Stallion, weed and Henry VIII.
What is the attraction of performing at the Edinburgh Fringe?
FOMO.
What do you think of Edinburgh?
Sarah: We are Edinburgh virgins. Kiran and I started comedy in the Devil’s year (2*2*) so performing at the Fringe hasn’t really been an option for us yet. But I imagine it’ll be like being in the cafeteria in High School Musical; loads of people spontaneously bursting into song and dance. And a lot of Troy Boltons everywhere (I’m a Sharpay so by that I mean a lot of boys who don’t fancy me).
Kiran: Edinburgh was always THE thing the London circuit was talking about when I started comedy. It was always what people were working towards. So I’ve tried to do the same. I’ve done loads of pelvic floor exercises and drank at least 4 units of alcohol a day to prepare for the incestuous havoc that’ll take place between all the desperate, horny performers.
Who inspires you?
Sarah: Me. And whoever made the decision not to do a Fringe app this year. Queen of doing the absolute bare minimum. Go off.
Kiran: My dad. Ha. Bet you didn’t expect that did you? A female comedian with a healthy relationship with her father? Eat my non-daddy-issues-dust, critics!
Are there other shows you want to check out during the Fringe?
Honestly so many, we can’t even wait. Alice Brine, Grace Campbell, Horatio Gould, Adam Flood, Siblings, Eryn Tett, Sharon Wanjohi, Sam Lake, Celya AB, Carla Gordon, Paddy Young, Chelsea Birkby, Sascha LO, Oenone, Leo Reich, Kate Cheka. All the girlies really. We could go on forever.
Finally, ask and answer a question of your own.
Sarah: Would you rather have bad breath or bad B.O that you couldn’t get rid of?
Bad B.O. cos I am addicted to snogging 🙂
Kiran: How dare you?
How dare YOU?
