Please tell me about your 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show,
Every drag queen is an outrageous gossip – this is a known fact! We are curious, we are inquisitive, we are downright nosy! That’s why I’m bringing my podcast The Vanity Project to the Fringe so I can prod and poke the best comedians at the festival, and find out more about them – all whilst slurping on a delicious cocktail. 4pm isn’t too early to get sloshed right?
What is the attraction of performing at the Edinburgh Fringe? What do you think of Edinburgh?
Despite being a London diva, I am actually from Scotland and half my family has lived in Edinburgh for decades. The city has lots of lovely winding alleyways, ideal for illicit activities and mischiefs I cannot expand upon in this interview. I wouldn’t want to get cancelled now would I!?
Who inspires you?
I’m lucky that my podcast The Vanity Project has featured some of my heroes – Peter Tatchell the gay rights activist, Lorraine Kelly the iconic broadcaster (and fellow Scot) and comedians like Luisa Omielan, Karen Dunbar and Andrew Doyle. I think there’s something inspiring in everyone, and that’s why I can’t wait to sit down with the stars of the Fringe and find out more about their hilarious and tragic life stories!
Are there other shows you want to check out during the Fringe? What are they?
Can I be cheeky? Can I be outrageous? It’s not just The Vanity Project I’m presenting at this year’s Fringe – I’m also bringing my smash-hit Drag Queen Wine Tasting events to the city. Every day at Mono Restaurant I’ll be hosting a real life wine tasting and camp singalong. Yes! You can drink at midday – in fact you might need to if you’re going to put up with me and top sommelier Beth Brickenden. We’ve had a roaring success with these tastings in London, and we both featured on Amazon Prime’s ‘The Three Drinkers’ travel show – so the time has very much come to give the people of Edinburgh a chance to take part.
Finally, ask and answer a question of your own.
You’re known in London as one of the top drag queen vocalists – will you be doing any singing at the Edinburgh Festival?
What a great question! Yes! I’ve decided that in addition to my two main shows, I’m going to be as promiscuous as possible, and am hoping to join lots of other shows as a guest diva – from Free Fringe variety shows, to good old fashioned busking in the street – just try and stop me!
